1st Grade Morning Work. Building great writers!

May 15, 2013 · No Comments · First Grade

As a former 4th, 5th, and 6th grade teacher, I was very concerned with my students’ handwriting , spelling, and reading skills.  Now, as a 1st grade teacher, I feel it is very important for these skills to be mastered at an early age, so therefore, as a part of my morning work, I encourage my students to write, read, and spell.

Below are examples of student’s work that began at the beginning of the school year.  As you can see, their penmanship has improved over a four month period.  This is work that is checked daily and each student’s paper is viewed and reviewed for mistakes.  The students are randomly called to the Promethean board to read the daily paragraphs aloud. In addition, they also must complete the morning calendar.
