1-3 Website update

I found a great site a couple of months ago for 2nd grade resouces. We unfortunately couldn’t access it for awhile because it began to ask for a login. Susan at Westhaven today let me know that the site is up and running again, and requires no log in. In addition, they are working on adding resources for 1st and 3rd grades. There are some resources for those grades already posted, although both those sections are listed as “in progress.”

This was an excellent site with lessons and activities for all subjects. The address is http://www.jalopespot.com/.  Please bookmark it (and maybe save/print the resources you’d like to use, just in case.)  So please check it out!

New Resources

I’ve added several new resources to the blog (thanks to Sarah.)  Under the VA Studies page, you’ll now find a powerpoint for VS.8.  For third grade, you’ll find a review section at the very bottom of the page with review cards for grades K-2, as well as a Repair History activity and a question and answer bank.  The K-2 review cards are also listed under the appropriate grade level on the K-2 page.

Virginia Museum of Fine Arts Workshop-3rd Grade

The VA Museum of Fine Arts (located in Richmond) is offering a workshop in March entitled “Our Classical Heritage:  Greece and Rome.”  This workshop is designed for 3rd grade teachers.

The workshop will take place on Thursday, March 26, 2009 from 4:30-7pm.  There is a $20 fee for the workshop.  If you’re interested, call the VMFA Ticket Desk at 804-340-1405. (You need to call between 9am and 5pm Monday through Friday, or 11am-5pm Saturday and Sunday.)  If you have any questions, call Twyla Kitts at 804-204-2662 or e-mail her at twyla.kitts@vmfa.museum

This workshop will take place in Richmond.  Please take that into consideration if you are interested in this workshop~it may require you to take a few hours that day so that you arrive in time.  I’ve heard many good things about the VMFA workshops, so I think it will be worth it.  Register soon, these workshops often fill up early.

Third Grade

I’m starting on the third grade page.  I’ve uploaded matching activities for several SOL’s.  I know it isn’t much yet, but we’re working on it!  If you have any activities you’d like to share, please send them to me and I’ll be happy to upload them to the blog.  Just remember that anyone can access them.
