Greetings fellow art teachers,
In celebration of black history month, Park View Elementary School
used the February P.T.A meeting to highlight cultural brilliance. To
promote the event, my students and I created a banner that displayed
the theme “Black History Matters”.
Many successful African-Americans
were depicted. Students and their families were placed in large groups
that toured the building from one display to the next. The art room
became a painting workshop. Families sat together as I welcomed them
and explained what they would do. Each participant was given a small
canvas board, paintbrushes, palette, and a pencil. I demonstrated how
to draw a design that incorporates the African continent. Each artist
was given a limited color scheme of red, green yellow, and black. The
works of art created by the children and their parents were awesome!
