During the latter part of the Fall I introduced my first grade students to the work of Piet Mondrian. I pointed out how his work uses primary colors and usually has thick dark lines. I split this project into three days. On day one I discussed primary colors and showed some of Mondrian’s work and with the time left I drew the spider web with them step by step using pencils. On day two they went over the line of their web with a black crayon and used tempera cakes to paint in three spaces with each primary color, and on the last day we made the spider out of construction paper and touched on some characteristics of arachnids and insects.
